Abstract

When ETC (Electronic Toll Collection System) is introduced into the existing expressway toll gates, at the stage until the car which copes with ETC comes into wide use completely, a general car (a car with no equipment for ETC) and an ETC car (a car with a equipment for ETC) are considered to be mixed in the tollgate. Therefore, it becomes a big research subject to determine the ratio of the ETC type gates and existing type gates are to be arranged for the minimization of waiting time at the tollgate as well as for smooth traffic flow in the tollgate. In this paper a theoretical analysis has been performed and determined the most suitable booth arrangement that minimized the total waiting time in the tollgate based on the Queuing theory.
