Abstract

A time- dependent traffic flow problem is which travellers go home from work along a long, idealized arterial street, has been introduced before. Each traveller enters the street at a particular time and place, bound for some given destination as prescribed by a continuous trip density function, but the time at which his trip is completed depends on the traffic conditions en route. A solution was obtained, but it was valid only if no intersection became saturated. This paper extends the analysis to cover cases where an intersection does become oversaturated.
