Abstract

The laboratory tests of bituminous mixture modified with styrene-butadiene-styrene block copolymer (SBS) for road surfacing thin layer have been presented in the paper. The procedure included Marshall mix design of Stone Mastic Asphalt (SMA) 0/4 mm for thin layer and Asphalt Concrete (AC) 0/20 mm for binder course. A tensile strength at: -20, -10, +5 C° of SMA 0/4 was tested to evaluate tensile properties of mixture, especially at low temperature. A rutting resistance by Wheel Tracking Test at 45 C° of a two-layer sample was tested. The tests have shown advantages of SBS modified SMA 0/4 mm and two-layer construction of thin layer surfacing on coarse graded asphalt concrete both modified with SBS. The beneficial properties were measured either at low or at high temperature. (A) The German title of this article is: Dünne Schichten mit Blockpolymer Styrol-Butadien-Styrol.
