Abstract

A survey covering the almost 50 years of automotive aerodynamic research that began in the early 1920 s details the development and use of wind tunnel facilities of cars in different states. Contributions of key researchers are described and references, as are the automobiles that stand as landmarks in the reduction of drag coefficients from as high as 0.66 to a modern low of 0.11.
