Abstract

Various tyre friction models are examined and their similarities and difference are pointed out. Emphasis is placed on the tyre side force and a numerical comparison is illustrated based on existing experimental data. Different uses of the friction ellipse are discussed. The sensitivity of vehicle response to different tyre models is studied using a nonlineat, simplified vehicle model. Three basic manoeuvres are simulated; cornering, straight ahead braking and braking in a turn.
