Abstract

The train system gives problems for old people and disabled persons. The distance between the train and the platforms, the differences in height between the train and the platform and the accessibility in many railway stations are obstacles for these people. Provisions in the train, and guidance from the train personnel should be improved. The European specifications for transport by train give no longer the obligation for such provisions, but will transport by train be competitive with other transport modes, than the transport by train must become more accessible for these group of passengers.
