Torsional behavior of the human femur.

Abstract

A collision of 36 fresh human femora was tested dynamically in torsion. All specimens failed with a spiral fracture surface. The results of a detailed stress analysis on one femur compared favorably with measured stiffness and published ultimate shear stress values.
