Abstract

This paper presents experiences from the IFMS (Integrated Freight logistics, fleet and Management Systems) project on how to improve freight and fleet management in real-life transport operations. Requirements from various freight transport segments and technical aspects from a broad range of system configurations are covered in a number of pilot operations across Europe. In order to achieve better interoperation of FFM systems a modular and open system concept is recommended. In this context, project results on standardized mobile data communication, on technical and organizational integration and on a communication platform are highlighted.
