Abstract

The eEurope initiative was launched by the European Commission in December 1999. Regarding mobility and transport, its Action Plan 2002 set the ambitious objective for all the stakeholders, the Commission, the Member States the private industry to work together in speeding up the development and deployment of Intelligent Transport Systems, introducing more efficient active safety enhancing systems in all new vehicles sold in Europe and in introducing location determination of all wireless emergency calls to the 112 number. This paper will examine the results obtained on the eEurope2002 programme on the goals in the area of Intelligent Transport Systems, now on its second year after its June 2000 launch, in these three domains.
