A series of slides is presented illustrating the new organisation for public transport in the Ile de France region of Paris. Statistics are given on the population, GDP and surface area of the Ile de France, the characteristics of the public transport network (metro, heavy rail, bus), and annual operating expenses for public transport. The aims of the Syndicat des Transports d'Ile de France (STIF) relating to organisation, modernisation and development are listed. The new regulatory framework for STIF and its contractual relationships with operating companies are described. Issues yetto be resolved and the objectives of decentralisation are outlined. STIF's new transport responsibilities (organisation of transport services, urban planning, delegation to local authorities) and new means of financing are described.
