Abstract

This paper contains considerations on the problem of traffic safety in Brazilian federal highways, in a way that emphasises an approach based on the classic theory of the "3 Es" - Engineering, Enforcement and Education - and its application to the strategies of planning destined to prevent the traffic problems on that highways. This work also underscores the reduction of accidents along critical routes of hazardous locations, mainly through the use of low cost engineering countermeasures for the treatment of those locations.
