Abstract

The conduct of, and responses to the investigations used in the study to gather information on the practice and effectiveness of town planning directed towards road safety are summarized. Nearly 78% of Australian urban municipalities responded to a survey on current practice. In broad terms, the initial responses indicated widespread application, to varying degrees, of the planning techniques commonly promoted for road safety reasons.
