High communication costs and narrow bandwidths of cellular phone-based driving information services have limited their potential appeal. A more practical approach would be to use the broadband digital satellite broadcasting infrastructures (for drivers) that are expected to appear soon, and TPOCast (TM), a personalised broadcasting service for drivers on the basis of current time, geographic position, and individual preferences, has been developed. Even though its broadcasting is one-way, TPOCast is able to provide personalised information in a cost-effective way. In addition, driver's privacy information is kept safe at in-car receivers. Further, its ability to learn individual driver preferences on the basis of driving patterns helps to enhance the suitability of the information provided.
