Abstract

The Tokyo Metropolitan Expressway (TME), which is a 283-km urban motorway network, was built to improve traffic flow in Tokyo, Japan. The daily traffic volume is heavy, exceeding 1 million vehicles. Currently, approximately 13,000 accidents occur on the TME each year. Therefore, the Metropolitan Expressway Company Limited, the road administrator for the TME, is taking measures to reduce vehicle accidents on the Expressway. This report describes the framework of the measures and their effectiveness for reducing accidents on the TME. (a) For the covering entry of this conference, please see ITRD abstract no. E214938.
