Abstract

The steady state index is based upon the hypothesis that the number of fatal accidents per 10.000 vehicles per year per country shows an asymptotic leveling- off curve to a value of about 5. Figures are provided for the U.S.A., Great Britain. Australia and New Zealand since 1935. This figure is viewed as an approximation of the actual accident exposure rate expressed in the number of potential collisions in a certain area during some time.
