Abstract

A detailed study was made of the accidents that occurred in the Dhaka metropolitan area over the three and a half years (1977- 1980). This was the first scientific study of road- traffic accidents in Bangladesh. The paper presents part of the analysis and results of the study. Accidents were classified by use of the Road User Movement (RUM) codes, and also coded for location. The pedestrian accident was determined to be the greatest problem and then came "rear end" and "vehicles from two streets" accidents.
