Abstract

Statistics are given on accidents, casualties, fatalities and vehicle breakdowns on the Nagoya-Kobe Expressway in the five years since its opening. A steady fall in the accident and breakdown rates is attributed, to drivers having acquired experience of motorway driving. Similar statistics are given for the Tokyo Expressway, a motorway ring round Tokyo. Most Accidents on this road have occurred at bends, particularly S. bends.
