Abstract

This issue of Current Topics includes over 65 abstracts of reports, conference papers, books and journal articles which focus on the design and effectiveness of the various measures in use to calm traffic on residential roads. Subjects covered include home zones, 20 mph speed limit zones, redesign of busy areas to benefit pedestrians, psychological traffic calming, quiet lane initiatives, road narrowing, and assessment of the benefits and adverse effects of road humps. These items have been selected from the material added to the Transport Research Laboratory's Library Database between 2004 and 2005. Much of the relevant English language published literature from the UK, USA, Australia and Europe is included; some of the non-UK literature is included courtesy of the OECD International Transport Research Documentation (ITRD) database.
