Abstract

This issue of Current Topics includes over 65 abstracts of reports, conference papers, books and journal articles which focus on the design and effectiveness of the various measures in use to calm traffic on residential and other urban roads. Subjects covered include home zones, shared use areas, 20 mph speed limit zones, redesign of busy areas to benefit pedestrians, psychological traffic calming, road narrowing, and assessments of the benefits and adverse effects of existing traffic calming schemes. These items have been selected from the material added to the Transport Research Laboratory's Library Database between 2006 and 2008. Much of the relevant English language published literature from the UK, USA, Australia and Europe is included; some of the non-UK literature is included courtesy of the OECD International Transport Research Documentation (ITRD) database.
