Traffic conflict studies: A tool for accident assessment.

Author(s)
Walsh, K.
Abstract

The concept of traffic conflict began in the USA in the 1960s and raised a great deal of interest in other countries. It was an opening towards the development of a new tool for safety evaluation and the diagnoses of local safety problems. This paper discussed, using examples from studies undertaken in Cumbria, the need for conflict studies, the training of observers, the interception of results and future uses of the technique.
