Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the application of the traffic conflict technique to Y-type intersections in rural areas. The technique was found to be flexible enough to be applied to both rural and urban intersections. It is the author's opinion that the technique can be used to define accident potential. However, more research and experience with the technique will be necessary before it can become a quantitative tool.
