Abstract

A formulation and discussion of various control problems of traffic in an urban area are given. Particular emphasis is given to the problem of synchronizing a system of traffic signals of an urban street network, the problem of minimizing delays in congested transportation systems, and the problem of optimizing the operation of critical traffic links such as freeways, tunnels and bridges.
