Abstract

This is a collection of papers, serving as the first review of computerized traffic control. Basic consideration are presented: recent advances in traffic instrumentation; control problems of single intersections and networks in under and oversaturated states; an introduction to the stored program digital computer. Typical large-scale integrated traffic control systems are dealt with as well as peak hour traffic control, tunnel traffic control, the use of vehicle-detector-based systems, ramp control and traffic signal systems controlled by computers.
