Automated Vehicle Guidance (AVG) systems are systems in which driving tasks of a driver are taken over partly or entirely by an automated system. The paper presents an overview of traffic effects that can be expected when AVG systems are introduced. The relevant references are grouped in three stages for the introduction of AVG systems, namely Mixed Traffic, AVG lanes and Intelligent AVG infrastructure. Quantitative results on traffic effects are compared among different research approaches for each stage. One of the conclusions is that different research approaches find similar traffic effects. This supports of course the results of all studies. Finally, some suggestion for further research for the Dutch traffic situation are given. For the covering abstract see IRRD E102946.
