Population: 10.7 million inhabitants in Ile-de-France including 2.16 million in Paris Vehicles registered in Paris: 861,000 (1992) of which 600,000 were owned by households. Motorization rate: Paris ........... 46.2%. Ile-de-France ... 67.6%. Number of trips per day in or through Paris: 7.2 million (including 2.6 million or 36% by car). Parisian road network: 6,700 streets totalling 1,590 km (approx. 25 km2). - Boulevard Peripherique: 35 km. - express routes: 16.4 km (right bank: 13 km - left bank: 3.4 km). - underground streets in Les Halles: 4.2 km. - major streets: 300 km (including 37 km of «red routes»). - bus lanes: 139 km. - cycle tracks: 3.6 km. - junctions operated by traffic lights: 1,450.
