Abstract

The activities of the Spanish traffic management authority (DGT) over the last fifteen years have included signals, variable message signs, ramp metering systems, rerouting strategies and telematic information systems. Cost benefit and socioeconomic studies of these ITS systems were conducted in 1999 and it was shown that the measures were cost effective in reducing accidents and congestion.
