Abstract

A study carried out to investigate the energy saving effects of speed limit policy and traffic /driver improvements for the EEC is described. A national speed- sensitive road fuel consumption model was developed to analyse the energy saving effects of various speed limit policies. It was concluded from running the model, that by improving compliance with existing speed limits, a 3.3% reduction in total road fuel consumption in the EEC could be achieved.
