Abstract

How much traffic information is available? Where can it be found? When? Regarding Spain the answer is clear: a) a lot of traffic information at peak hours located in periurban areas and accesses to cities; b) a lot of information at special dates (summer holidays, long weekends,...) over most of the roads; and c) a little information at other dates for the whole road network. Then, if RDS-TMC can give a great service for drivers, it is mainly at periurban areas and accesses to cities, and also during long holidays, known as departure and return operations. This paper shows the state-of-the-art on traffic information in Spain, and the achievements regarding RDS-TMC which is finally working although in a limited area.
