Abstract

European Road Administrations have traditionally focused on road construction and maintenance and improvements in the road network. Today the focus is more on traffic management and intelligent transport systems. The Traffic Information Centre (TIC) is the Danish Road Directorate's traffic management system. TIC receives data about traffic and road conditions from drivers, road authorities and ITS. The data is verified and passed on to road users using the internet, teletext, radio, electronic devices and the media. Traffic management in the future will focus on intelligent transport services with international Road Administrations undertaking the role of coordinating operative traffic managers, collecting and disseminating pre-trip and on-trip information together with the effective management of the available transport infrastructure.
