Traffic information provision system using character-scrolling display type changeable message signs.

Abstract

This short article describes the provision of driver information in Kyoto which uses a character scrolling type variable message sign. Brief technical details of the system and its location on the streets of Kyoto are provided. The design of the variable message sign is also described and illustrated. Details are provided of such specifications as character height, and display element arrangement. Brief details are provided of the effect of the system upon traffic concentration.
