Abstract

In the very congested Paris Region a huge, automatic system has been implemented to collect and manage raw road data. The development of this system, called SIRIUS, allows a better management of the road capacity and road events by the operators (Ministry of Transport, Police...) and enables for the first time drivers to be informed in real time about congestion, roadworks or accidents ahead. The first evaluation has shown the benefits of the system in terms of safety, free flow and comfort leading to a total profit in congestion reduction equivalent to 550M Francs a year. (A)
