Abstract

The Road Traffic Act 1991 contains two major initiatives for tackling the road transport problems in Greater London. This paper outlines one of them; the creation of a network of Priority Routes and the post of Traffic Director for London to co-ordinate their introduction and oversee their operation. It describes the organisation of the Traffic Director, the framework within which he operates and provides a preview of the Network Plan for the Priority Routes. This document will explain the strategy, indicate how the concept is to be developed and sets out the programme for Local Authorities to design and introduce detailed measures. (A)
