Abstract

This paper gives an overview about ITS developments in the Rhein Main area and describes how traffic management strategies can make efficient use of such advanced telematics infrastructure in conurbations. First experiences with traffic management in the German federal State of Hessen have been made within the ENTERPRICE project. Traffic telematics infrastructure will be further extended in the frame of the project CENTRICO. The definition of intermodal traffic management strategies for the whole region is the precondition that the responsible authorities/organisations can co-operate in the field of traffic management and can act to make use of the ITS developments to secure sustainable mobility for the future.
