Abstract

The handling of the constantly increasing traffic volume and therewith accompanied problems has become very important for the quality of land use in conurbations. Everybody could imagine, that with the decision of the FIFA to select the cities Munich and Nuremberg, two big conurbations in Bavaria (Germany), as sites for the FIFA World Cup 2006, did not only create much joy but also came with a big responsibility for a fluid traffic status during peak hours of the event. In order to cope with such extraordinary traffic loads as during the FIFA World Cup occurred and during working day peak hours and other major events still occurs, interconnected telematic systems were erected to guide the different traffic streams to their destinations most efficiently. In both conurbation areas variable message sign systems were installed on the motorways and in the city areas. For the covering abstract see E134653.
