With the introduction of sophisticated telematic systems there is an increasing demand for traffic information in urban environments. The idea of BMW and Aero-Sensing is to evaluate radar remote sensing methods to gain traffic information. This paper describes the results that have been achieved so far from experimental tests in November 1999. Algorithms for the detection of moving as well as not moving vehicles have been developed, also the extraction of the georeferenced position of the vehicles. Further the velocity and direction of motion were determined. The results are compared with ground-truth data and are promising. For the covering abstract see ITRD E114174.
