Abstract

The goal of this study (See also PB 31533) has been to provide more knowledge about traffic streams in one direction of bicycles and mopeds on separate cycle paths. This knowledge will be useful for the perfection of the geometric design of bicycle facilities. Data on bicycle traffic have been collected on rather heavily used paths at four locations in built-up areas and one in a rural area. A special developed system of sensors was used to measure times of passage, speeds and lateral positions of the vehicles at a path cross-section. This paper was presented at the 70th annual TRB meeting, Washington, 1991.
