Abstract

Good roads are vital to Britain's trade and industry. Major benefits have resulted from the development of Britain's motorway and trunk road network. Design standards for roads are critical to scheduled journey speeds for lorries. Inaccurate forecasting of traffic growth leads to premature reconstruction and maintenance creating further congestion and delay. All road organisations in Britain believe that the Government should abolish tolls and assume responsibility for the bridges and tunnels.
