Abstract

This paper gives a brief overview of the use of traffic psychology in Switzerland. Medical expert opinion is requested in cases of drivers with addiction problems or illness, who have repeatedly failed driving tests, or who have committed traffic violations, whether under the influence of alcohol or not. The clients who have failed driving tests repeatedly are often referred for further psychological examination, including cognitive and kinetic tests, personality tests, interview and case study. Psychology is also used in the treatment of traffic offenders, although many interventions of this kind are seen as too brief to be effective. The author suggests further co-operation with medical experts and further work on treatment of alcohol-based offences. For the covering abstract see ITRD E113725 (C 22328 CD-ROM).
