Abstract

A three- year experimental programme entitled "safer towns, accident free localities", conducted by the French government made it possible to test particular hypotheses regarding the planning /road user behaviour relation for operations carried out on classic roads with a heavy traffic volume in urban areas, aimed at better reconciling traffic requirements and the daily urban activity of the localities travelled through.
