Abstract

This book examines and discusses the various reasons why traffic accidents occur. Topics include: a) the effects upon accident rate of the drivers' age or sex; b) alcohol use; c) driver behaviour; d) driving aptitude; and e) vehicle or highway design. An overview of the 1988 United States accident injury statistics is also provided. Methods used to decrease accidents are also described and discussed.
