Abstract

The `Traffic Safety CD-ROM 1996' is a compilation of 20 years (1975-1994) of Fatal Accident Reporting System (FARS) data and 7 years (1988-1994) of General Estimates System (GES) data. It also contains summary information on traffic safety in the form of Traffic Safety Facts 1994 and 12 topical Traffic Safety Facts Sheets from 1994. The FARS data provide a census of fatal motor vehicle traffic crashes in the United States and contain detailed information on crash, vehicle, driver, occupant, and non-occupant characteristics. In addition, data are provided for the period 1982-1994 for the FARS blood alcohol concentration (BAC) distribution files. The GES data provide general information on a probability sample of all severities of police-reported traffic crashes in the United States. (A)
