Abstract

The traffic safety equipment general management and control system brings together under one computerized system a mapping system, computer aided design (CAD) system, GPS, and database system. These systems were all previously managed manually. As well as displaying the exact location of road signs and road markings on a map, the system also effortlessly performs calculations, creates ledgers, and links information on the map with information in the database. Two years have passed since the system was implemented in Nagasaki, and it has been very effective in managing traffic safety equipment and helping to reduce workloads. In addition, as this system manages information regarding traffic regulations and traffic safety equipment, in the future it is hoped to use the system as part of UTMS (Universal Traffic Management System). This paper discusses the features of the system and its future prospects. (A*)
