Abstract

This traffic safety fact sheet presents state traffic data in a figure showing 2002 traffic fatalities by state and percent change from 2001 and in 12 tables showing: (1) traffic fatalities and fatality rates, 2002; (2) traffic fatalities and percent change, 1975-2002; (3) traffic fatality rates and percent change, 1975-2002; (4) alcohol involvement in fatal traffic crashes, 1992 and 2002; (5) speeding-related traffic fatalities by road type and speed limit, 2002; (6) passenger vehicle occupants and motorcyclists killed, 2002; (7) traffic fatalities and vehicles involved in fatal crashes, 2002; (8) fatalities in the beds of pickup trucks by age, 2002; (9) key provisions of safety belt use laws through August 2002, and 2002 belt use rates; (10) child passenger protection laws through December 2002; (11) states with .08 blood alcohol concentration illegal per se laws through December 2002; and (12) status of state motorcycle helmet use requirements through December 2002.
