Abstract

Developing countries suffer high rates of traffic accidents in spite of low levels of motorisation. While traffic accidents can not be fully eliminated, traffic safety can be enhanced by conscious and concerted efforts on many fronts. Due to cultural, demographic and economic differences, the measures appropriate to developing countries have to be different from those claimed to be successful in developed countries.
