Abstract

The report is an outcome of an OECD road research group study in which experts from 14 countries collaborated to review the present state-of-the-art regarding traffic safety in residential areas. The report, prepared as a result of three meetings held in 1977 and 1978, sets out to define and quantify the problem of traffic safety in residential areas taking into account their specific functional features as well as differences that occur in the characteristics of residential development, administrative procedures and legal codes in member countries. The study reviews planning, traffic and regulatory measures which have been taken and outlines a list of measures which can be applied in the planning of new residential communities and in developing effective countermeasures which can be implemented in existing areas.(a) the IRRD number for the abstract of the french report is 111001.
