Abstract

One effect of the systems approach in traffic safety, applied the past 10 years in the U.S., has been a reduction of 52% in the U.S. death rate per 100. 000. 000 motor vehicle miles travelled. Alcohol' s place in the several sub-systems is discussed. Special activities conducted as alcohol countermeasures are public involvement in changing social forces and attitudes, and educational and public information programs.
