Abstract

In the Federal Republic of Germany, most traffic accidents occur in built-up areas, as is the case in other countries. The cause of accidents is closely related to traffic behaviour in built-up areas and traffic structures there. Against this background, traffic safety work in towns and municipalities is of great importance. For this reason, one of the principle objectives of the programme run by the German Traffic Safety Council is to address local authority decision-makers on the importance of on-the-spot traffic safety work and the need to step it up.
