Abstract

Operational design of traffic signals at an individual intersection involves the selection of a phasing system and the calculation of an optimum signal plan for given design flow and saturation flow conditions. It is proposed that the intersection degree of saturation, rather than the flow ratio, is used for preliminary design patterns.
