Abstract

Chapter seven of the Traffic Signs Manual, the design of traffic signs, gives comprehensive, detailed and illustrated guidance to designers on the layout of directional and other signs. Advice includes word and symbol spacing and the principle of colour-coding; use of distances, junction names and alternative route indications, and design of traditional fingerpost style signs, map-type advance direction signs, flag type direction signs, gantry and motorway signing, roadworks signs and pedestrian signs. The design rules have been adapted to be particularly suitable for computerisation. For the other Chapters, see https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/traffic-signs-manual
