Abstract

A description is given of some of the most important features of a simulation model. The model simulates traffic moving through a street system made up of two pairs of parallel streets intersecting at right angles. Thus, a closed network including four intersections is obtained. The intersections are all controlled by fixed time traffic signals. The streets are two lane two way. The model has been programmed for a computer in the FORTRAN IV programming language. The model components discussed in the paper are link system, speed generation, car generation and arrival, car following, signal functioning, turns, and somewhat summarily car behavior when passing intersections.
